Enabling requests simply allows the officials to view games that are either under-assigned or unassigned based on the season defaults and then as long as they are qualified with at least the correct level of experience they can choose to request the assignment for the position(s) that are open and available to them.

There's a couple options to enable this feature - manual approval (where the assignor still has the ability to review the requests and "approve" them) or auto-approval (as soon as the request is made it's theirs, no approval needed).

This means that the correct setup of the season defaults in terms of how many officials per position for each team, and their pay rates, is very important. That should be setup anyway since it makes assigning officials easier.

To test things out we suggest enabling manual approval for just a few teams to see how it works before enabling it for more teams and/or switching to automatic approval. In practice, this likely means enabling requesting for some of the lower-level / introductory teams first.
