Block Out Teams
The blocking out of a team prevents somebody from being assigned to games for that team (so if they’re on that team or have a relative, for example). It has nothing to do with the schedule of that team blocking their availability for games that belong to other teams since that is a personal preference that could change based on whether it’s a home/away game or even where it is.
Example – I’m on the U18AA team. So I block the U18AA team.
I can’t be assigned to any U18AA games regardless of when or where they are. But if the U18AA team is playing on Friday night, the system will not automatically prevent me from being assigned to a U16AA game at the exact same time on Friday night.
No matter what the reason for the time block, those are individual preferences and managed by the individual separately.
This is why associations sometimes choose to turn that part off since it can be confusing – they might think they’re auto-time-blocked when they aren’t – plus – some of the more senior-level officials might block teams that they just don’t *want* to be assigned to (like a lower level team where the pay rates are less).
These settings are configurable here:
This current setup for both the user-submitted team blocks and user-submitted venue blocks is 0, which means they can’t enter any of them. The realistic number that should be there is however many teams an individual could have a conflict-of-interest style conflict, so basically however many teams they themselves are on plus perhaps any of their immediate family members.
