Tournament Groups

GROUP is a set of teams within the tournament who are competing for a championship. For example, if the tournament has "Under 13" and "Under 15" teams, and those age groups will each have their own champion, then those are two separate Groups.

Groups usually define different ages of teams but can also define different levels of play (or both). A group is not required if there is only one set of teams with a champion in the tournament.

A group can also optionally have a date range assigned to it, but ONLY if the group's dates of play are significantly different than that of the tournament. For example, if the tournament spans multiple weekends where the "Under 13" group plays only of those weekends, and the "Under 15" group plays the other, then the date range for the tournament would cover both weekends and each group would have dates defined for their own individual weekends. Adding a start and end date is not required unless your Tournament runs over multiple weekends.

For large tournaments, there is no limit to how many groups are created. However, when there are a lot of groups it might make sense to create "Super-Groups", which are just a group of groups and can help with organization when groups have common things between them. For example, if the tournament had both "Under 13" and "Under 15" age groups, but "AAA", "AA", and "A" levels of play for each, then an option would be to create super groups for each age, and groups for each level of play who belong to their respective age super group.

Groups which are "in use" cannot be deleted, so any teams belonging to the group must be completely deleted (including teams marked as removed) and any divisions belonging to a group must also be deleted beforehand.
